Heywood Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Prabhudev Prasad Purudappa, an experienced orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement, sports medicine, and comprehensive orthopedic care, who will join our medical staff beginning June 1, 2026.
Dr. Purudappa brings extensive experience in orthopedic surgery with advanced fellowship training in both Adult Reconstruction/Arthroplasty and Sports Medicine Surgery. His expertise includes hip, knee, and shoulder replacement surgery, revision joint replacement procedures, sports-related injuries, arthroscopic surgery, fracture care, and general orthopedic conditions.
Prior to joining Heywood Hospital, Dr. Purudappa served at the VA Boston Healthcare System, where he provided comprehensive orthopedic care to veterans and developed significant expertise in complex primary and revision joint replacement surgery. He also previously practiced at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where he cared for a wide range of orthopedic and sports medicine conditions affecting patients of all ages.
In addition to hip and knee reconstruction, Dr. Purudappa has specialized expertise in shoulder replacement surgery and revision shoulder arthroplasty, offering advanced surgical options for patients with arthritis, rotator cuff disease, failed prior shoulder replacements, instability, and other complex shoulder conditions.
Dr. Purudappa also provides comprehensive sports medicine care, including treatment of ligament, tendon, cartilage, and meniscal injuries. His sports medicine experience includes arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, rotator cuff repair, ACL and other ligament reconstruction procedures, treatment of shoulder instability, meniscus surgery, and care for overuse and athletic injuries.
In addition to his subspecialty expertise, Dr. Purudappa treats a broad spectrum of general orthopedic conditions, including fractures, tendon injuries, hand and wrist conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, arthritis, and musculoskeletal injuries.
Dr. Purudappa has been actively involved in physician education and resident training throughout his career and previously held faculty affiliations as Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine and Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School through his work at the VA Boston Healthcare System.
