Heywood Healthcare Honors Employees for Years of Service

September 28, 2018

Heywood Healthcare honored 167 employees totaling 2,430 years of service on September 27th during its annual Service Awards recognition dinner.

"We love to celebrate longevity and achievement because it is part of the culture," said Heywood Healthcare President and CEO Win Brown. "Our employees give so much of themselves to our patients and our communities, often dedicating decades of their lives to healthcare. They deserve a night dedicated to recognizing their important contributions."

Employees were treated to a gourmet buffet before being recognized for their service, some as long as 45 years, to Heywood and Athol Hospitals, The Quabbin Retreat, Winchendon Health Center, Heywood Rehabilitation Center and Heywood Medical Group.

Carol Nolin, Doris Pratt and Sharon Yavorosky celebrated 40 years while Tim Hamel, Anne Hamm, Nancy Heglin and Sue Hermanson received recognition for 45 years at Heywood Hospital.

Employees are celebrated for their service every five years, and are able to choose a gift on each occasion.

The Daniel P. Moen Employee Excellence Award is also presented annually by Heywood Hospital to a five-year anniversary employee who most closely exemplifies the commitment, hard work, vision and dedication that are the legacy of past president Dan Moen’s administration. This year’s recipient was Jillian Casey from Nursing, who was celebrating her 5-year anniversary.

From direct patient care to mopping the floors when needed, she takes it upon herself to make it happen. Jill is a true team player, always bringing her team together to think through problems and solve patient issues as they arise. When asked, many in the nursing division name her as the first choice to care for themselves or a loved one.

Athol Hospital also honored Isaias Palermo, a 25-year service anniversary employee with the 3rd Annual Meehan Award, which recognizes the five-year anniversary recipient who best exemplifies the work ethic, dedication, vision and outstanding service that exemplifies Board of Trustee and long-time supporter of Athol Hospital, Jim Meehan.

Isaias is not only a rock star in the OR, but as a team player, he works as a back-up in the Central Sterile Department, helps in the Pharmacy and acts as a patient sitter in the Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical floor. During the low activity days in the OR, he helps in answering lights, making beds and doing activities with the swing bed patients. He is a favorite of our surgeons and epitomizes the best of Athol!
