The Athol Hospital Hematology-Oncology Clinic provides services that allow many cancer patients to receive the majority of their healthcare in a convenient, local setting, including infusion therapy, experienced nursing, social service, nutrition, and financial consultation. Serving the the nine-town North Quabbin region since 1985, the Hematology-Oncology Clinic makes essential care available close to home, providing comfort and convenience to the patients we serve.
The Clinic offers treatment and follow-up care for patients with cancer and blood disorders. The state-of-the-art laboratory and radiology services complement the care offered at the Clinic.
Our highly-skilled oncology team includes an experienced cancer physician, Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Oncology (the study of cancer) and Hematology (the study of blood disorders). Our Nursing staff is certified in the administration of chemotherapy, providing support to patients both during and after treatment. Working together as a team, our nurses, physician and pharmacy deliver current therapies in the treatment of cancer and blood disorders, including chemotherapy, allowing patients to receive quality cancer care close to home.
Our experienced support staff is glad to assist patients by making follow-up appointments for office visits, further laboratory and radiology procedures and referrals to outside services. Our on-site dietitian is available to provide nutritional services and counseling for patients throughout their course of treatment.
Our dedicated Social Worker is available to help patients and their families with a variety of needs including, but not limited to, finances, insurance matters, coordination of services during and after treatment, and support after a diagnosis of cancer or a blood disorder.
We receive referrals from Primary Care Physicians, other specialists and individual patients. Our clinic works with oncologists and other specialists from Worcester and Boston. If you have questions about what insurance plans we accept, please click here.
Community Transit Services provides rides free of charge to those patients 65 or older. Three days notice is required to reserve transportation for patients to Athol Hospital and the Athol Medical Office Building directly behind the hospital. Please call 978-249-1362 to schedule a ride. A bus service passenger pick-up stop is located at the front of the hospital and is made available through the FTRA and the Gardner transportation. A limited taxi service is available in the Gardner area only.
