New Season Begins
Athol Memorial Hospital’s Diabetes
Education and Support Group will
hold the first meeting of the season
on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at
6:30 p.m. in the hospital conference
room. The group will feature a new,
team-based approach this season,
concentrating on the critical areas
of diet, exercise, and medication
management.
Staff members from the hospital’s
Dietary, Rehabilitation Services and
Pharmacy departments will take turns
presenting information of interest
to individuals with diabetes. Each
month one of the staff will share
information from their field of
expertise. Hospital dietitian,
Marjorie Sobil, RD, will concentrate
on how diet and nutrition affect
well-being. A member of the
Rehabilitation Services staff will
offer advice related to exercise and
physical activity. Pharmacy staff
will discuss medication related
issues.
Meeting format has also changed.
Each month time will be set aside
for information sharing on topics
such as recipes, news or magazine
articles, helpful products, etc.
Group members, as well as group
support staff, are invited to bring
subjects of interest to the
meetings.
The Diabetes Education and Support
Group is free and open to the
public. Anyone dealing with diabetes
or who would like to learn about
this medical condition is welcome to
attend. The group meets on the third
Tuesday of each month, September
through June, at 6:30 p.m. in the
conference room. Mailings will only
be sent to announce special guest
speakers. Please call Margie Sobil,
RD at (978)249-1149 with any
