Dear Friends of Heywood Healthcare,
During the winter months when the snow fell and much of nature was lying dormant, we were very busy at Heywood Healthcare bringing new services online, renovating our facilities and recognizing community members for their valuable contributions.
Launching the Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery
Earlier this year, Heywood Hospital launched the Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery. A proven tool, Bariatric Surgery can be the first step in a journey to a healthier weight and a healthier life. Our new Chief of Bariatric Surgery, Nari Sabeti, MD, completed her Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at Tufts Medical Center and has performed more than 1,000 successful bariatric surgeries during her career. To find out if Bariatric Surgery is right for you, attend one of our free Informational Seminars.
To register, please visit www.heywood.org/bariatricweightloss or call to speak with a Patient Advocate at (978) 630-6130.
The Winter Affair Honors Local Community Health Advocates
In February, our fourth annual Winter Affair event honored James and Asta Kraskouskas with our Community Health Hero Award, for commitment to improving social services for our communities. Clinical + Support Options, Inc. (CSO), our Collaborator’s Award recipient, was recognized as a strong partner in providing behavioral health services to the North Quabbin area.
I would like to thank our Award recipients for the important work they do to make our communities a better place for us all. This year, the Winter Affair benefitted our Weekend Backpack Food Program, which provides 250 food insecure students from Gardner and Athol/Royalston School Districts with food assistance for the weekends. To our dedicated volunteers who make this program possible, I offer our deepest thanks.
Cutting the Ribbon on the Quabbin Retreat and Breaking Ground on Athol Hospital Project
In late January, Heywood Healthcare had the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Phase One of the Quabbin Retreat, the Dana Day Treatment Center, named in honor of the Town of Dana, one of the four “Lost” Towns of the Quabbin Reservoir, will provide outpatient services for addiction treatment and behavioral health, offering a much needed resource for individuals struggling with these serious health issues.
The completion of Phase One, scheduled for later this year, will feature an adult residential substance abuse center. Over the coming years, future services will include a residential adolescent substance abuse treatment program and an inpatient detox center. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to the residents of Petersham for their continued support of this imperative project.
A New Athol Home for Tully Family Medicine and Athol Walk-in Care Center
This summer we will be bringing even more healthcare services to the North Quabbin region with the opening of a new Tully Family Medicine office and Walk-in Care Center. Located in the North Quabbin Commons, adjacent to Market Basket, this larger space will allow Tully Family Medicine to expand its number of providers, while the Athol Walk-in Care Center will offer services seven-days-a-week, for non-life threatening urgent health needs, such as sore throats, ear aches, sinus infections, and injuries, without an appointment. Look for more information on this project as our completion date approaches.
Athol Hospital Ceremonial Groundbreaking
In late April, we will celebrate the ceremonial groundbreaking of Athol Hospital’s new ED/Medical Office Building construction, one of three projects in the Heywood Healthcare Fulfilling Our Promise capital campaign. Launching this new project, which will improve access to emergency care and physician services, is an exciting way to begin this new season of growth.
Yours in Good Health,
